I’ve invested more in NPP than my opponents – Bryan Acheampong
The Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has thrown a bold challenge to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He urged the party to name any individual who has contributed more financially to its growth and success than he has.
Speaking to party supporters ahead of the NPP presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026, Dr. Acheampong addressed perceptions that he does not deserve to be the party’s flagbearer because he has not “suffered enough” for the cause. He insisted that no credible list of the party’s 500 most dedicated members could be compiled without his inclusion.
“I would be surprised if anyone in the history of the NPP, including the late J.B. Danquah and Dr. K.A. Busia, has spent more money on this party than I have,” he said.
Dr. Acheampong revealed that even after the NPP’s 2016 electoral victory, then-President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo privately acknowledged that he had contributed more to the party’s campaign than any other member.
Detailing his financial support, he disclosed that during the 2024 elections, he personally funded 27 out of the 33 NPP parliamentary candidates in the Eastern Region, giving each GHS 100,000 every month. He added that in November 2024, he provided GHS 2 million each to 26,000 NPP polling station executives.
“I financed 27 out of the 33 NPP parliamentary candidates in the Eastern Region during the 2024 elections, giving each GHS 100,000 every month. I also gave GHS 2 million each to 26,000 NPP polling station executives in November 2024,” he reiterated.
Dr. Acheampong positions himself as a top contender for the NPP’s flagbearer slot, stressing that his commitment and financial investment are unmatched in the party’s history.
The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) officially opened nominations for aspirants seeking to lead the party into the 2028 general elections. The nomination process commenced on, July 29, 2025.
Several high-profile figures within the party have already declared their intentions to contest for the flagbearer slot. Among them is Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture. Other declared aspirants include former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, former General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.
