Kasoa Gold Dealer allegedly attacks fiancée with hammer over cheating claims

A gold dealer in Kasoa has allegedly attacked his fiancée with a hammer after accusing her of cheating, leaving the young woman with serious injuries.
The Kasoa gold dealer, identified as 39-year-old Osman Mumuni, is alleged to have launched the hammer attack on his fiancée, Barikisu, after a heated confrontation over suspicions of infidelity. According to the victim, the Kasoa gold dealer entered her room at night and struck her with a hammer, rendering her unconscious.
Narrating her ordeal, Barikisu said the Kasoa gold dealer had rented a room for her in Kasoa while he resided in Bolgatanga. She explained that one night, Osman sneaked into her room and allegedly hit her on the head with a hammer. “I only regained consciousness at the hospital after the Kasoa gold dealer attacked me with the hammer,” she recounted.
Barikisu further revealed that upon discharge from the hospital, she found Osman’s blood-stained slippers and the hammer suspected to have been used in the attack. She said days later, the Kasoa gold dealer phoned her parents to apologize, admitting to the assault and promising to resolve the matter. Crime Check, a social advocacy organization, reported that the victim suffered a fractured skull and broken teeth from the alleged hammer attack.
When contacted, Osman admitted to physically assaulting Barikisu but denied using a hammer or sneaking into her room. He insisted that he only slapped and punched her during a confrontation. The Kasoa gold dealer justified his actions by accusing his fiancée of cheating despite his financial support. He claimed he spent GH¢6,000 on her rent, provided GH¢500 weekly and nearly GH¢100 daily for upkeep, bought her a new phone, and gave her capital to start a business.
He further alleged that Barikisu frequently received late-night calls, disrespected him during visits, and declined intimacy, which raised his suspicions. In response, Barikisu denied the allegations, stating that the calls were from customers and that she refused intimacy because they were not married. She also accused Osman of mocking her family and failing to officially introduce himself to them.
Despite appearing remorseful, Osman has reportedly promised to settle her medical bills and meet her family in an attempt to make amends. Meanwhile, the Kasoa police have confirmed that the alleged hammer attack by the gold dealer has been formally reported and is under investigation.
