Kennedy Agyapong picks nomination forms to contest NPP flagbearer race

Businessman and former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has officially picked nomination forms to contest the NPP’s presidential primaries. His move signals a renewed bid to lead the party into the 2026 general elections.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, August 5, through a Facebook post by his campaign spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng, who confirmed the former lawmaker’s intentions to re-enter the race for the party’s leadership.
“Official Update: Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong has officially picked nomination forms to contest in the 2026 NPP Flagbearership race,” the brief statement read.
This marks a renewed bid by Mr Agyapong to lead the governing party, following his vibrant and widely followed campaign in the 2024 NPP presidential primaries, where he emerged as a formidable contender.
According to close sources within his team, Mr Agyapong’s 2026 campaign will once again centre around themes of discipline, patriotism, and economic transformation—the same pillars that defined his previous presidential attempt.
Known for his tough-talking style and anti-corruption rhetoric, Agyapong has positioned himself as a candidate who is unafraid to challenge the status quo. He has often emphasized the need for practical leadership, support for local industry, job creation, and strict enforcement of law and order as the pathway to Ghana’s economic independence.
Political observers believe his re-entry into the flagbearer race will energize the party’s base and reignite debates about leadership style, generational change, and the future ideological direction of the NPP.
Kennedy Agyapong served as Member of Parliament for Assin Central for five consecutive terms (2001–2025) before opting not to seek re-election in the 2024 general elections. Over the years, he has earned a reputation as a fiery, outspoken figure within the NPP and national politics at large, often clashing with both allies and opponents over issues of accountability, governance, and national interest.
In the 2024 NPP presidential primaries, Agyapong surprised many by finishing second behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, securing a significant number of votes despite strong establishment support for his rival.
