Leadership must remain connected to the people — ING. Abeiku Hayford

Leadership achieves its greatest impact when it remains connected to the people, according to ING. Abeiku Hayford.
The professional engineer, risk management consultant, and General Secretary for former NDC parliamentary aspirants made the assertion in a Facebook post following a courtesy call on Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Area, at the Emintseamadze Palace in Cape Coast.
The engagement formed part of efforts to discuss issues affecting the development of Cape Coast, the welfare of residents, and the role of collective action in advancing the interests of Oguaa and Ghana.
Reflecting on the meeting, ING. Abeiku Hayford emphasized the importance of accessible and responsive leadership, arguing that lasting progress can only be achieved when leaders remain in touch with the people they serve.
“As a proud son of Cape Coast, I believe that progress is best achieved when leadership remains connected to the people, listens to diverse perspectives, and works collaboratively towards shared goals,” he wrote.
His comments come at a time when citizens are increasingly demanding greater engagement and accountability from leaders across political, traditional, and professional spheres.
According to ING. Abeiku Hayford, leadership should not be measured merely by positions held but by the willingness to listen, serve, and work in the interest of the people. He stressed that consultation and collaboration remain essential ingredients for effective governance and sustainable development.
The engineer further stated that the visit provided an opportunity to once again draw from the wisdom and experience of the Oguaaman Chief, whose dedication to the growth of Cape Coast continues to inspire many.
“It was therefore refreshing to once again engage my father and draw from his wealth of wisdom, experience, and unwavering commitment to the growth of our traditional area,” he stated.
ING. Abeiku Hayford also underscored the importance of values-based leadership, insisting that service, humility and commitment to the people must remain at the heart of public life.
“I remain convinced that service, humility, and a genuine commitment to the people must always guide leadership,” he noted.
He praised Osabarima Kwesi Atta II for exemplifying those qualities through his longstanding commitment to the advancement of the Oguaa Traditional Area.
During the engagement, the Paramount Chief assured ING. Abeiku Hayford and the team of his support and blessings. He also encouraged continued efforts aimed at promoting unity, development, and opportunities for the people of Cape Coast.
The assurance, according to observers, reflects the shared commitment between traditional leadership and development-oriented stakeholders to pursue initiatives that will improve the lives of residents and strengthen the future of Oguaa.
ING. Abeiku Hayford concluded by expressing gratitude for the warm reception and fatherly counsel received during the visit, while reaffirming his commitment to the development of Cape Coast and the empowerment of its people.
