Mahama assigns Muntaka to lead talks on Bole-Sawla conflict

President John Dramani Mahama has assigned the Interior Minister, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, to lead talks on the Bole-Sawla conflict, stressing that urgent dialogue is needed to prevent further escalation.
The President said the Interior Minister has been given the full mandate to engage traditional leaders and community stakeholders in Bole-Sawla.
According to the Presidency, Mahama’s decision to assign the Interior Minister to lead talks on the Bole-Sawla conflict is a demonstration of his government’s determination to find a lasting solution. Officials explained that the Interior Minister’s leadership in the peace talks will ensure direct government involvement in addressing the Bole-Sawla conflict.
The statement further emphasized that Mahama assigning the Interior Minister to lead talks on the Bole-Sawla conflict is part of a wider plan to secure peace in the Savannah Region. The Interior Minister, Hon. Muntaka Mohamed-Mubarak, is expected to meet the Yagbonwura, the Bolewura, and other chiefs to build consensus and calm tensions.
While abroad in Singapore, Mahama had already spoken by telephone with the Yagbonwura about ending the Bole-Sawla conflict. His swift decision to assign the Interior Minister to lead talks upon returning home shows the seriousness attached to the matter.
In addition, President Mahama ordered more police and military personnel to be deployed to the Bole-Sawla conflict area to restore calm and protect civilians. He also urged all parties to cooperate fully with the Interior Minister in the dialogue process.
“The Interior Minister has been directed to work with the regional security council, chiefs, and stakeholders to bring the Bole-Sawla conflict to an end,” the statement from the Presidency explained.
Mahama further assured residents that his government will continue to monitor the Bole-Sawla conflict until peace is fully restored. He appealed to both Gonja and Birifor communities to remain calm, law-abiding, and committed to unity.
The release was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, reaffirming the government’s determination to resolve the Bole-Sawla conflict permanently.
