VIDEO: Mahama introduces first-ever KPIs for Ghana’s envoys, ambassadors
Ghana’s foreign envoys will now be assessed on tangible contributions to the country’s development under the President’s Reset Agenda.
President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled the first Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Ghana’s ambassadors and envoys, aiming to shift the focus of the foreign service from ceremonial duties to measurable outcomes.
Speaking at the Ambassadors’ Conference and orientation for new envoys in Accra on Monday, September 1, 2025, he emphasized that diplomacy must produce real benefits for Ghana.
The President explained that envoys will be evaluated against eight key benchmarks, including economic diplomacy, consular services, diaspora engagement, financial accountability, and security compliance. “From now on, our missions abroad will be assessed by the investments, trade, and opportunities they help secure for our people,” he noted.
Mahama stated that the initiative aligns with his Reset Agenda, which aims to create jobs through programmes such as the 24-hour economy initiative, the Women’s Development Bank, an Agri-Reset programme, and youth apprenticeship schemes. He highlighted that partnerships forged abroad must translate into tangible benefits in cities like Tamale, Kumasi, Ho, and Accra.
He directed envoys to actively promote Ghana as a destination for investment in sectors such as renewable energy, agro-processing, industrialisation, infrastructure, tourism, and digital services. Missions are also tasked with supporting the export of Ghanaian products, including processed cocoa, shea butter, textiles, crafts, and ICT solutions.
The President affirmed that Ghana’s foreign policy will continue to focus on Pan-African solidarity, climate diplomacy, and strong support for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). “Economic diplomacy will be the anchor of Ghana’s engagement with the world,” he stressed.
Throughout the five-day programme, participants will receive briefings on national priorities, engage with experts from leading institutions, and explore strategic partnerships that can drive investment, trade, and international support for Ghana’s development goals.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Ghana’s diplomatic corps in pursuit of national interest and global diplomacy.
