Mahama leads delegation to 80th UN General Assembly in New York

President John Dramani Mahama has departed Accra for New York, United States.

He is leading Ghana’s delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80), which begins on Tuesday, September 23.

A statement from the Presidency on Sunday, September 21, confirmed that President Mahama is scheduled to deliver Ghana’s address to the General Assembly on Thursday, September 25.

As part of his programme, the President will participate in high-level side events in his capacity as the African Union’s Champion for Financial Institutions. He will also host two major sessions focused on Africa’s economic and institutional development.

His engagements in New York include bilateral meetings with the UN Secretary-General, other world leaders, and the President of the Rockefeller Foundation. He is also expected to make a historic appearance at NASDAQ, where he will ring the closing bell.

First Lady Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama is accompanying the President as part of the delegation. She will attend side events organised by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) and deliver the keynote address at a World Vision International prayer service dedicated to children worldwide.

The delegation includes Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Executive Secretary Dr. Callistus Mahama, Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Deputy Chief of Staff and Adviser to the First Lady Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Trade Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, and GIPC CEO Simon Madjie.

President Mahama and his delegation are expected to return to Ghana on September 30.
