Maiden CTVET Excellence Awards: TVET reforms critical to Ghana’s industrial future – Dr. Apaak

The Deputy Minister for Education, Clement Apaak, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to repositioning Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a major driver of national development.
Speaking at the Maiden Ghana TVET Excellence Awards 2026 in Accra on April 14, 2026, he said the sector is being restructured to respond directly to the needs of industry and the wider economy.
He explained that under the government’s education reset agenda, emphasis is being placed on practical, demand-driven, and industry-aligned skills to improve employability among young people.
“TVET is no longer a secondary pathway; it is a strategic pillar for industrialization, job creation, and inclusive economic growth,” he stated.
He noted that the Commission for TVET continues to drive reforms aimed at strengthening quality assurance, standardization and workplace-based learning across institutions.
According to him, these reforms are producing graduates who are not just academically qualified but also competent and industry-ready.
Mr Apaak also highlighted the importance of collaboration with industry through Sector Skills Bodies, which are helping to align training with labour market needs and technological changes.
He further referenced ongoing initiatives such as the Ghana Jobs and Skills Project and the Ghana Skills Development Fund, which are already improving employability and supporting enterprise development.
He emphasized that a National TVET Policy, currently awaiting Cabinet approval, will provide a long-term framework covering governance, financing, industry engagement and inclusion.
The Deputy Minister commended award winners at the ceremony, describing them as examples of excellence, innovation and resilience within the TVET ecosystem.
“To all nominees and award recipients, I extend my heartfelt congratulations. Your dedication, innovation, and resilience are a testament to the transformative power of skills development,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to development partners and industry stakeholders for their continued support in strengthening Ghana’s skills training ecosystem.
According to him, government will continue investing in infrastructure, institutional capacity and public awareness to make TVET a more attractive pathway for young people.
