Profile of Mona Helen Kabuki Quartey, Ambassador-Designate to the Italian Republic
Mrs. Mona Quartey is a finance professional with over 30 years of experience in broad economic strategy, treasury, risk management, and equity and debt raising experience in corporate and government environments. She holds a BSc in Development Planning, an MBA in Finance, and an LLM in International Commercial Law.
Mrs. Quartey is particularly well-versed in the banking and mining industries, having served early in her career as the Group Treasurer of Ashanti Goldfields, where she was instrumental in the company’s public listing on the London, Ghana, and New York stock exchanges.
From high-level financial executive roles in American Express and Citibank NA to her service as Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Finance, Mrs. Quartey has demonstrated skills in developing the economy and driving growth across integral real sectors. Her expertise in managing both fiscal and monetary policy was evident when the Government of Ghana achieved zero financing from the Bank of Ghana in 2016.
Mrs. Quartey has extensive governance experience from serving on several public and private sector boards, including multinational mining corporation Golden Star Resources PLC (now Chifeng Gold). For her achievements in the mining sector, Mrs. Quartey was in 2018 recognized by Women in Mining UK as one of “100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining” and in 2023 awarded the lifetime achievement award at the 9th Ghana Mining Industry Awards by the Chamber of Mines (GH). She is a fellow of the West African Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (WAIMM).
