Momo transactions hit GHC323bn in June despite monthly dip

Ghana’s mobile money sector showed resilience in June 2025. It recorded transactions valued at GHC323.2 billion, despite a slowdown from the previous month.
According to the Bank of Ghana’s July 2025 Summary of Economic and Financial Data, the value of mobile money transactions dropped by 10.2% from the GHC360 billion posted in May. While the month-on-month figure represents a decline, the sector continues to show strong year-on-year growth.
In June 2024, mobile money transactions were valued at GHC224 billion. The current figure of GHC323.2 billion marks a substantial GHC99.2 billion increase—translating to a 44.3% year-on-year rise in transaction value. This highlights the growing dominance of mobile financial services in Ghana’s economy.
The data also pointed to a minor dip in transaction volumes. A total of 735 million mobile money transactions were recorded in June 2025, down from 796 million in May. This represents a 7.7% decline. However, compared to the same period last year—when 644 million transactions were processed—the volume still saw a 14.1% increase.
Registered mobile money accounts stood at 76.4 million in June, with 24.5 million of those considered active users. In addition, the float balance, which represents the total funds held in mobile wallets, rose to GHC28.9 billion, indicating sustained consumer engagement with mobile money platforms.
