NDC Grassroots Voices endorses Opong-Fosu for National Chairman

Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) Board Chairman Akwasi Opong-Fosu has received the endorsement of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Grassroots Voices for the party’s National Chairman position.
The endorsement was announced in a statement issued by the group, which described the former Local Government and Rural Development Minister as the leader best suited to reconnect the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leadership with its grassroots base.
NDC Grassroots Voices said its decision followed a review of Opong-Fosu’s recent public engagements, particularly his appearance on Talk Time with Kwesi Pratt Jnr., where he outlined his vision for strengthening the party.
Explaining its decision, the group said, “This historic endorsement comes after a thorough evaluation of Hon Opong-Fosu’s visionary and inspiring statements in his recent media encounters. His position directly resonates with our mission: to rescue the ordinary grassroots party worker from neglect and build a sustainable reward system for the grassroots.”
The group added that it fully supports his vision, saying, “We wholeheartedly align with his vision which include: building systems over personalities and restoration of party cohesion.”
It further described Opong-Fosu as a unifying figure within the party.
“Without doubt, Hon Akwasi Opong-Fosu represents the bridge between party leadership and the grassroots. His vision promises an NDC where loyalty is respected, hard work is rewarded, and every activist has a stake in our collective success,” the statement said.
The group disclosed that although Opong-Fosu is yet to officially declare his intention to contest, it understands he is consulting widely and will mount a nationwide campaign for him once he formally enters the race.
It also appealed to delegates to embrace what it described as a new direction for the party.
“We call on every single delegate who is tired of being forgotten after elections to reject politics as usual, protect their dignity, and vote for systematic change,” the statement said.
Opong-Fosu, who currently serves as Board Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), is a veteran member of the NDC with more than 40 years of service in local and national governance.
He has served as PNDC District Secretary and District Chief Executive, President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), Head of the Local Government Service, Member of Parliament, and Minister for Local Government and Rural Development.
The group argues that his nearly two decades of experience in local governance uniquely positions him to understand the aspirations and challenges of grassroots party members.
