Omane Boamah’s widow vows to care for late husband’s mum and the children

Mrs. Rita Boamah, wife of the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has vowed to stay strong for their family and uphold his legacy following his tragic death in a helicopter crash on August 6.
In a heartfelt tribute delivered on her behalf at the state funeral held on Friday, August 15, at Black Stars Square in Accra, Mrs. Boamah described her late husband as a loving partner, devoted father, and “a genuine person with a heart of gold.”
“I will, with God’s help, take care of mommy and the three kids. Knowing who you are, I believe you will be looking down on us, guiding us from heaven,” she said, expressing both grief and hope.
She fondly recalled their love story, which began on a medical school bus and blossomed over simple moments — including late-night walks to buy kenkey and fish. These everyday memories, she said, became the foundation of a life full of love, commitment, and mutual respect.
Despite his high-profile responsibilities, Dr. Boamah remained deeply committed to family life. “You were a great source of hope to me and the children. Despite your demanding roles as a medical doctor and politician, you made time every morning to either bathe the children or dress them before school,” she shared.
Dr. Omane Boamah was among six Christian victims of the crash whose funeral service was conducted at the Black Stars Square ahead of their interment at the Military Cemetery in Tse Addo.
The other victims included:
Dr. Samuel Sarpong, NDC Vice Chairman
Samuel Aboagye, Acting Deputy Director of NADMO
Squadron Leader Peter Anala
Flying Officer Twum Ampadu
Sergeant Ernest Addo
