Organized Labour must walk the talk, resist Akufo-Addo’s electricity tax – Dr. Apaak

The Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaah says Organized Labour must walk the talk in resisting the tax introduced by this government on electricity.
Organized labour is an association of workers united as a single, representative entity to improve the economic status and working conditions of employees through collective bargaining with company management.
The Union has served notice to the government that it will resist any attempt by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to implement the lifeline electricity tax on the Ghanaian people.
However, addressing a gathering, the Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Ghana, Dr Anthony Yaw Baah indicated that there is no way they are going to sit aloof for this electricity to see the light of day.
“This country is called Ghana and with all the resources we have, now the government doesn’t have anywhere to tax, they are taxing our electricity also. Tomorrow they will tax our water and we are not going to sit down for that to continue.
“We need to fight it until this thing is cancelled. How can you add this thing to the problems we have in this country. The lifeline they are talking about is 30kwh, it used to be 50 they brought it down to 30. If you have two light bulbs in your house and you have a television and if you leave the television on for more than five hours you will pay this tax,” Dr. Baah stated.
In a tweet, the Builsa South lawmaker stated that the TUC has the masses must not allow what he described as wickedness to have its way.
“Organized Labour, led by the TUC, must give effect to its words. The TUC has the support of the masses on this clear act of wickedness.
“The Akufo-Addo/Bawumia Government cannot continue asking already suffering Ghanaians to sacrifice when government and NPP officials are living large,” the Builsa South lawmaker stated.
He continued: “What sacrifices have those who engaged in reckless borrowing, barefaced corruption, and gross economic mismanagement made?”
