Over 4k NPP delegates to vote on constitutional amendments

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that more than 4,000 delegates are expected to attend its upcoming National Delegates Conference. During this conference, key amendments to the party’s constitution will be discussed.
The party has revealed that over 50 provisions within the constitution are being considered for amendment as part of its efforts to strengthen internal structures and improve operational efficiency.
Joseph Osei-Owusu, commonly known as Joe Wise, who is the Chairman of the Planning Committee, stated that the proposed amendments have already been distributed to all delegates in advance of the conference.
“The main agenda of this conference is to review the proposed amendments to our constitution,” he said.
He further explained, “The document, which has been shared by our General Secretary with the regions and is intended for the constituencies, also includes a summary report that spans about 64 pages. However, all of this information will be condensed into motions. These are the motions that the delegates will be asked to vote on.”
The conference is expected to serve as a major moment of introspection and reform for the NPP, especially as it prepares for the 2028 general elections following its loss in 2024.
Party officials say the proposed changes reflect feedback gathered from across its structures and are designed to make the party more responsive, transparent, and democratic.
The Past and the Future: Prof. Mike Oquaye Warns of Disunity Dangers.
Recalling the 1992 flagbearer race, Prof. Oquaye highlighted the spirit of camaraderie among party members, particularly how those who lost the primaries rallied behind Professor Adu Boahen without resorting to personal attacks or division. He urged current aspirants to follow this example, focusing on their achievements, contributions to the party, and vision for Ghana. “If we do that, this party will be successful,” he stated.
The former speaker also issued a stern warning against division within the party, referencing the 1979 elections where internal rifts led to electoral defeat. “Anyone who perceives the pathway of division is not working in the interest of the party and must be excused,” he cautioned.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will soon elect a new national chairman to lead the party. The chairman plays a very important role in organising the party and helping it win elections.
