Pantang, Danfa, other Chiefs demand school feeding slots
The chiefs of Pantang, Danfa, Kweiman, and Otinibi say the government must fulfill its promise of giving their communities a share of school feeding slots under the national programme.
The chiefs urged the government to honour its promise of allocating school feeding slots to their communities under the Ghana School Feeding Programme.
Their demand comes after clashes between some caterers in the area and another caterer reportedly assigned by the Regional School Feeding Secretariat. The chiefs insist that the allocation of *school feeding slots* must reflect local participation rather than decisions imposed from outside.
At a stakeholder meeting on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, the Chief of Otinibi, Nii Adjei Kwei Jamaica IV, expressed deep frustration, saying the communities cannot continue to be sidelined in such important matters.
“When you needed our support, you came humbly. But once it is given, you show us your powers. How can they sit at the Secretariat and dictate to us without consultation? We will not accept it this time. If they bring it 40 times, we will resist 40 times, because our power lies in our thumbs—and in 2028, we shall show them,” he declared.
He further warned that the chiefs will not compromise on their demand for 10% of the programme’s allocation. “Our children do not even enjoy the best education. The little contribution we made, this is what we are asking for—10%, nothing more, nothing less. And we shall maintain that,” he emphasized.
The chiefs also stressed that they play a central role in community development and deserve to be consulted when contracts affecting their people are being distributed.
In response, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for La Nkwantanang-Madina, Ibrahim Faila Fusseini, appealed for calm and assured the chiefs that their concerns would be addressed.
“I am going back to the Secretariat to discuss this matter in detail. You cannot argue with the chiefs; they decide for you because you once came to them for votes,” the MCE noted.
Mr. Fusseini praised the traditional leaders for their contributions to the growth of the constituency and promised to liaise with the Regional School Feeding Secretariat to find a fair resolution.
