Passport fees cut from GH₵500 to GH₵350 effective November 13

Ghanaians will, from Thursday, November 13, 2025, pay GH₵350 instead of GH₵500 for the ordinary 32-page passport booklet following a 30 percent fee reduction by the government.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the adjustment in a statement by Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa on Sunday, November 9, 2025, describing it as a major step toward making passports more affordable and accessible to all citizens.

Mr. Ablakwa said the reduction fulfills President John Dramani Mahama’s directive issued earlier this year to ease the cost of acquiring travel documents while maintaining strong security standards.

“The government recognises the concerns about affordability and remains committed to ensuring the cost stays reasonable without compromising security,” he said.

He clarified that the new GH₵350 fee already covers courier delivery, meaning applicants will not pay any additional charges upon receipt. “When your passport is delivered, simply verify your identity with your Ghana Card and sign. You are not to pay even one cedi more,” he noted.

The implementation follows Parliament’s amendment of the Fees and Charges Act, which paved the way for the new rates to take effect.

Processing timelines have been reduced to 15 working days for regular applications and three days for expedited service.

The Foreign Affairs Minister explained that the new pricing also aims to discourage the use of middlemen and unauthorised agents who exploit applicants, ensuring that all services are accessed transparently through official channels.

Mr. Ablakwa further disclosed that Ghana has fully phased out the old biometric passports and replaced them with chip-embedded versions that meet international standards.

The Ministry now operates 24-hour passport processing services with delivery across all 16 regions.

He said the government intends to establish functional Passport Application Centres in every region by December 2025, in line with its broader goal of easing the cost and improving access to essential public services.
