A violent armed robbery at a gold buying shop in Teleku Bokazo, in Ghana’s Western Region, has left one suspected robber dead and two employees critically injured, sparking a full-scale police investigation and manhunt.
The incident occurred in the late afternoon of Thursday, July 31, 2025. Around 5:30 p.m., the Ghana Police Service received an emergency call from Francis Awuah, Assemblyman for the Anwiah and Teleku Bokazo electoral areas, alerting them to an active robbery at the gold trading shop.
Responding swiftly, police patrol teams rushed to the scene. Preliminary reports indicate that a group of six men, armed with an AK-47 rifle and machetes, had stormed the shop and launched a brutal assault on the attendants.
According to police, the robbers, upon sensing the presence of law enforcement, fled toward the nearby community of Salman. Officers pursued the suspects through the bush. In the course of the chase, the robbers reportedly opened fire, prompting police to return fire.
One of the gunmen, later identified as 34-year-old Abdul Rahman, was shot during the exchange. Before he died, Rahman reportedly mentioned the name of another suspect, Mohammed, and hinted that more accomplices were involved in the robbery. He was transported to St. Martin De Porres Hospital in Eikwe, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue.
Meanwhile, two victims of the attack—29-year-old Samuel Appiah and 45-year-old Kwamena Nketiah—suffered serious injuries. Appiah was slashed in the thigh with a machete, while Nketiah was shot in the leg. Both are receiving treatment at the same hospital and are said to be in stable condition.
A search of the area led to the discovery of fifteen live rounds of AK-47 ammunition believed to have been left behind by the fleeing robbers. Due to nightfall, the police have scheduled a return to the crime scene on Friday, August 1, to continue their investigations.
The Ghana Police Service has called on residents to assist with any information that may help track down the remaining suspects.
