Reject Bawumia – Bempah to NPP

Ernest Owusu Bempah, Deputy Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on the party to reject Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer for the 2028 elections.
Speaking on Oyerepa TV, he urged the party to reconsider its choice, warning that the former Vice President lacks the people’s connection necessary to secure a win for the NPP.
According to Owusu Bempah, the grassroots are disillusioned with Bawumia’s candidacy. He shared a personal experience of meeting an NPP member, a taxi driver, who revealed he voted for the NDC in the 2024 elections due to the party’s failure to select the right candidate. Owusu Bempah believes that the discontent with Bawumia is widespread and was a significant factor in the low voter turnout in the last election, with 2.1 million NPP supporters refusing to cast their votes.
Owusu Bempah further asserted that only former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, has the potential to lead the party to victory in 2028, claiming that the NPP base is demanding Agyapong as the flagbearer.
The NPP’s loss in the 2024 polls has led to introspection within the party, and Ernest Owusu Bempah’s comments are significant. His recent appointment as Deputy Communications Director by the Justin Kodua administration and his reported interest in contesting for the National Organiser position of the NPP underscore his active role in shaping the party’s future.
