Release preliminary report on helicopter crash – Nitiwul to Gov’t

Former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul has urged the government to make public the preliminary findings of the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash that claimed eight lives, including two cabinet ministers.
The tragic incident, which stunned the nation, resulted in the deaths of Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Murtala Muhammed. Six others also perished in the crash, sparking widespread grief and questions over its cause.
Nearly three months on, Nitiwul has expressed growing concern over what he describes as a troubling lack of transparency surrounding the investigation.
He noted that while comprehensive probes into aviation disasters typically take time, the government has a duty to share preliminary insights to ease public anxiety.
“The investigation will take time, but I believe the people of Ghana are entitled to know what has been discovered so far,” Nitiwul said in an interview with journalists this week.
He argued that the continued silence from authorities risks eroding public trust in the investigative process.
According to him, regular communication would not compromise the inquiry but rather strengthen confidence in its integrity.
“The government needs to restore confidence by providing updates,” he cautioned. “The delay in publishing even basic information is adding unnecessary anxiety among the public.”
Nitiwul, who previously supervised Ghana’s defence operations, also stressed that transparency in such sensitive matters is vital to prevent misinformation and political speculation.
He warned that allowing rumours to fill the information gap could damage the credibility of both the investigation team and the government.
As the wait for official details continues, many Ghanaians have echoed Nitiwul’s call for openness, demanding clarity about what caused the mid-air tragedy that took the lives of two key members of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
