Resumption of works on Weisi–Sandema–Chuchuliga road to boost businesses, ease transport – Dr. Apaak

Work has finally resumed on the long-stalled Weisi–Sandema–Chuchuliga road project, bringing renewed hope to residents and traders who have endured years of dust, delays, and limited business opportunities.
The contract for the project was originally awarded in 2016, but construction was subsequently abandoned, leaving the road in a deplorable state for close to a decade. It is now set to receive a bitumen surface under the government’s “Big Push Agenda.”
The resumption of work is expected to ease transportation challenges, boost local commerce, and improve access for emergency services and commuters alike. Speaking at the project site on April 9, 2026, the Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak, highlighted the significance of the road to the community. “Builsa South is known as a food basket,” he said. “This road is critical not just for the people here, but for the entire supply chain of food distribution.”
Dr. Apaak further noted that sustained engagement with the Roads Minister played a key role in reviving the project, stressing that the upgraded road will transform the livelihoods of residents and traders who have been negatively affected by poor accessibility.
“The resumption of works is expected to ease transportation challenges, boost local commerce, and improve access for emergency services and commuters alike. Residents and traders, who have endured years of dust, delays, and reduced business opportunities, are hopeful that the upgraded road will transform their livelihoods,” he added.
The project also serves as a vital link for the movement of agricultural produce, connecting farmers to markets more efficiently and supporting economic activities across the region. Local residents have welcomed the development, expressing confidence that the improved infrastructure will enhance trade, reduce travel time, and open new opportunities for business growth.
With machinery back on the stretch and construction officially underway, the Weisi–Sandema–Chuchuliga road is poised to deliver significant socio-economic benefits, fulfilling the government’s promise to prioritize infrastructure as a driver of local and regional development.
