Three arrested over Gbinyiri killing as suspect confesses, names accomplices

Three people have been arrested over a killing and assault at Gbinyiri in the Savannah Region after one suspect reportedly confessed and named accomplices.
The arrests were made by the Special Intelligence Team of the Inspector-General of Police working with the Savannah Regional Police Command, following investigations into the violent incident in the community.
According to the Police, the suspects — Yaw Bamuah, Yaa Bokaa, and Kuma Simpor — were picked up on March 14, 2026, in connection with the case.
A statement from the Savannah Regional Police Headquarters said one of the suspects admitted involvement during interrogation and disclosed the identities of other alleged accomplices.
“During interrogation, suspect Yaw Bamuah admitted involvement in the attack and mentioned several accomplices, including Anuda Borour, Pobiy e, Bitunor Sansa and James Sanyuah,” the statement said.
Police indicated that the named individuals are currently being pursued as part of ongoing operations linked to the case.
Investigators also revealed that the suspect explained the motive behind the attack, claiming it was carried out as retaliation after the killing of a relative.
“The suspect further disclosed that the attack was carried out in retaliation following the killing of a relative whom they believed had been attacked by robbers suspected to be Fulanis,” the statement added.
Police said the suspect later led officers to his residence at Gbinyiri where a weapon believed to be connected to the incident was recovered.
“He subsequently led the Police to his house at Gbinyiri where a single-barrel shotgun with serial number BAT 2598-88 and two live AAA cartridges were retrieved from a concealed spot within the compound,” the statement said.
Authorities say the three suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
“The suspects are in Police custody assisting investigations and will be put before the court while efforts are intensified to arrest the remaining suspects connected to the incident,” the Police stated.
The development comes as security agencies continue operations aimed at tracking down other individuals believed to have played roles in the attack.
