Two arrested for alleged plot to assassinate Akyem Kwabeng Chief

The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals accused of planning to assassinate Daasebre Ayimadu Kantamanto II, Chief of Akyem Kwabeng and Gyasehene of the Akyem Abuakwa State.
Police say the plot was allegedly timed to disrupt the Chief’s first Royal Durbar, scheduled for October 17, 2025, in Akyem Kwabeng.
According to a statement, on October 11, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m., the Command received credible intelligence that a group was preparing to target the Chief. Acting on this information, the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate launched a covert operation on October 12, 2025, to infiltrate the suspected group.
During the operation, Emelia Akua Asor, 47, allegedly offered GH₵50,000.00 to undercover officers to carry out the assassination of both the Chief and another woman believed to be the newly appointed Queen Mother of Akyem Kwabeng. Investigations further revealed that Asor instructed her accomplice, Butuakwa Seth, 48, to guide the officers to Akyem Kwabeng to identify the residences of the Chief and the woman. Seth reportedly showed both locations and provided a photograph of the Chief to the officers.
The police said the suspects also promised an additional GH₵50,000.00 upon successful completion of the plan. Both Asor and Seth are currently in police custody and are assisting authorities with ongoing investigations. Authorities confirmed that further updates will be provided; meanwhile, photographs of the suspects and seized cash have been attached as exhibits.
Meanwhile, the Tema Regional Police Command has dismantled a human trafficking and cyber fraud syndicate operating in Peace Land, Ashaiman. The operation led to the rescue of seven Nigerian nationals and the arrest of three suspects believed to be the masterminds behind the crime.
According to a statement issued by the Police on Friday, October 10, 2025, the raid was carried out by the Zenu–Atadeka District Police Patrol Team on Tuesday, October 7, around 4:00 p.m. The operation, which followed weeks of intelligence gathering, resulted in the arrest of Peter Okoyie, 36, a computer engineer; Jolly Ezekiel, 30; and Jolly Shadrack, 33.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects lured their victims from Nigeria to Ghana with promises of construction jobs in the Tema area. However, upon arrival, the victims were confined in a house at Peace Land and forced to participate in online fraud schemes under harsh and exploitative conditions.
The Police disclosed that the victims were subjected to severe beatings and made to swear oaths of loyalty to the traffickers. Those who resisted were locked in a small 10×12-foot room, denied food, water, and basic hygiene, and deprived of their freedom for months.
