We’ll deal with troublemakers hiding behind chieftaincy – Omane Boamah warns

The Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has cautioned that the government will not hesitate to take deal with troublemakers hiding behind chieftaincy. According to him firm action against individuals who seek to destabilize the country under the pretext of chieftaincy disputes will not be entertained.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Monday, July 21, the Minister stressed that the peace and stability of Ghana remain a top priority for the Mahama-led administration, and no one would be allowed to disrupt it.
“Ghana is safe, peaceful, stable, and ready for the reset agenda,” Dr Boamah said. “Criminals who want to foment trouble in the name of chieftaincy will be dealt with accordingly by the security agencies.”
He further cautioned all individuals, groups, and factions involved in or planning any form of violence in the name of chieftaincy to desist immediately, adding that the security agencies have been placed on high alert to clamp down on any such activities.
“We are sending a clear signal: those who think they can plunge communities into chaos through chieftaincy-related disturbances will be met with the full force of the law,” he warned.
Navy operations enhanced
Dr Omane Boamah also highlighted improvements in the country’s maritime security operations. According to him, the Ghana Navy has ramped up its efforts to protect vital national infrastructure, particularly the West Africa Gas Pipeline.
“The Navy has enhanced its protection for the West Africa Gas Pipeline,” he announced.
He added that the Ghana Navy has also rolled out two separate programmes aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of personnel involved in anti-narcotics efforts.
“These initiatives form part of a broader strategy to improve our national security architecture and ensure that Ghana remains a safe and secure place for all,” he said.
The Minister’s comments come amid rising tensions in some parts of the country over protracted chieftaincy disputes, many of which have led to violence and loss of lives in recent years.
