We’re all disappointed in Akufo-Addo – Prof. Adei

Former appointee of President Nana Addo Dankwa , Professor Stephen Adei, says many Ghanaians including himself are highly disappointed in the President.
According to him, the President raised the expectations of Ghanaians prior to his election into office and ended up dumping it when much was expected of him.
To this end, he noted that President Akufo-Addo, would go down in history as one of the most disappointing leaders in Ghana’s history if he does not redeem himself in the next 14 months.
The former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) said, the country required a leader who is trustworthy and selfless to take Ghana out of the current economic predicament in the short time, something President Akufo-Addo lacks.
He said the President wielded the aura of hope, charisma, vision and determination many felt would have guided him to salvage the country from its problems.
However, he said, things have turned out to be rather worse with his appointees wallowing in corruption.
He made the observations on TV3 which was monitored by Today.
“One of the greatest disappointments of Nana Akufo-Addo’s regime is that, honestly, he raised the hope of Ghanaians. Ghanaians expected that they had gotten the leader with vision, charisma, determination, and it seems if he doesn’t redeem himself in the next 14 months, he will go down in history as one of the most disappointing leaders,” the Professor indicated.
He bemoaned the sheer arrogance that has characterised the President’s appointees.
“…The corruption, the arrogance, they think that Ghana is for them and that without them Ghana will not be there and some of them thinking that they should tell us who should be our next president,” he berated.
The President has come under many criticisms regarding the state of Ghana’s economy some economists have projected a true recovery in the next 30 year, all other things being equal.
Inflation rate has risen sharply to a record 54 per cent until a recent decline stemming from the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) bailout which granted the first tranche of the US$3billion some few months ago.
The President who appears to have lost control over recent affairs is only casting his hopes on who the next leader becomes, per a response he gave to journalists on his way to vote in the super delegates’ conference of the NPP in August 2023.
“It’s difficult, I’m the first to admit it. I have said it several times, but at the end of the day I believe when the moment comes, Ghanaians will reflect on who best can get us out of this difficulty,” Akufo-Addo had said.
The former rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Prof Stephen Adei has also called on the government to replace the current laws on asset declaration with a new one.
Speaking to GHOne TV, the renowned educationist described the current law on asset declaration as foolish.
“This foolish thing, you declare your assets and it is locked up in a locker and nobody will even see it again. What we need is an open declaration. So that when you go in and when you are going out everybody will know.
“When you are going in and you declare your asset “somebody will say Stephen Addai is lying when he became a Minister of Education he built ten houses.” If you declare that you have two houses, other people will say you lied and it should be published,” Prof. Adei stated.
