We’re coming for you – IGP sounds warning to criminals

Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohunu has warned criminals that intensified police operations will continue across the country following major arrests in Atebubu.

Addressing a press briefing in the Bono East Region, the IGP said the Ghana Police Service remained determined to clamp down on violent crime and make communities safer.

“We will continue to deploy crime-fighting methods that will enhance crime prevention and make life uncomfortable for criminals,” Mr Yohunu stated.

He followed the assurance with a direct warning to individuals involved in criminal activities.

“I cannot say that without sending a word of caution to all criminals out there. Watch out, you’re the next in line. We’re coming for you,” the IGP declared.

The briefing focused on what police described as significant breakthroughs in two separate violent crime investigations within the Atebubu enclave.

According to the Police Service, 14 suspects were arrested through intelligence-led operations, including persons linked to the killing of Nana Serwaa Gyan Kuma, the proprietress of Ohemaa’s Kitchen.

Police said the businesswoman was ambushed and shot multiple times outside her residence on February 25, 2026.

Investigators disclosed that eight suspects had so far been arrested in connection with the murder case.

Among those in custody is Nana Owusu Sahkofi II, the 56-year-old Chief of Akokua, who police alleged contracted the killers over land and chieftaincy disputes.

The IGP said preliminary investigations pointed to a carefully coordinated plot involving financial inducement.

Police indicated that some key suspects had admitted participating in the murder for a promised payment of GH¢50,000.

Investigators further revealed that one of the suspects claimed he decided to confess because he was being haunted by the ghost of the deceased queen mother.

Mr Yohunu praised officers involved in the operations and assured residents that police visibility and intelligence gathering would be strengthened in the area.

He said the latest arrests demonstrated the service’s renewed commitment to pursuing criminal networks and ensuring offenders face justice regardless of their social standing.

The Police Service also appealed to the public to continue volunteering information that could assist ongoing investigations and future operations aimed at reducing violent crime across the country.
