‘Where is Ofori-Atta’ – Abraham Koomson to OSP
The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has expressed strong concern over the apparent inaction of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) regarding former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
He questioned why the OSP has failed to act after reportedly declaring the former minister wanted earlier this year.
Mr. Koomson questioned why the former minister, alleged to be a fugitive, continues to move freely in the United States without any intervention from Ghanaian authorities.
Mr. Ofori-Atta was recently sighted abroad, reigniting public debate about the seriousness of the corruption investigations launched against him and the overall credibility of Ghana’s anti-corruption institutions.
Earlier in 2025, the OSP accused the former Finance Minister of financial misconduct and reportedly issued a warrant for his arrest after he failed to respond to an official summons. The office also indicated that failure to comply would result in his continued listing as a wanted person.
However, recent reports suggest that Mr. Ofori-Atta has been residing in the U.S. for several months, prompting doubts about the effectiveness of the OSP’s enforcement mechanisms and Ghana’s cooperation with international authorities.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s “Yepe Ahunu” show on Saturday, October 11, 2025, Mr. Koomson criticized what he described as an inconsistency in the OSP’s operations.
“If someone is truly declared wanted, will he have the freedom to roam the streets of America? The OSP has said this man is wanted. Even though he is not guilty yet, he must return and testify. I will call on the OSP to sit up,” he said.
He stressed that the OSP must act decisively to restore public trust, insisting that justice must be applied evenly regardless of political status or influence.
Mr. Koomson further urged the OSP to provide clarity on the case to avoid public speculation and ensure transparency in Ghana’s anti-corruption drive.
