NPP distances itself from Wontumi, Abronye comments

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership has urged the public to disregard recent comments by two of its regional chairmen, insisting their statements do not reflect the party’s values.
In a statement issued on Sunday, September 28, and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP said remarks by Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako and Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, misrepresented the party’s stance.
“The Party wishes to categorically state that no individual, irrespective of rank or position, has a monopoly or unilateral control over the compilation of polling station albums,” the statement read.
It added that the process of compiling polling station albums follows established compliance procedures guided by transparency, credibility, and fairness.
The party assured polling station executives across the country that such pronouncements “should be disregarded and treated with the utmost contempt they deserve.”
The statement also addressed allegations that the January 31, 2026, presidential primaries were timed to favour a specific aspirant.
According to the NPP, the decision was taken after exhaustive deliberations by the National Council and was intended to give the party time to reorganise and prepare for the 2028 elections.
“The assertion that the date was calculated to favour any aspirant is unfounded. No individual can manipulate or influence a decision in his or her favour,” the party emphasised.
Mr. Kodua Frimpong further stressed that the NPP remains committed to transparency and accountability in its electoral processes.
“Leadership will continue to ensure that every stage of our electoral activities reflects the highest standards of integrity and credibility,” he said.
The party reiterated its commitment to upholding internal democracy and fairness, promising to issue clear guidelines and protocols for the conduct of the upcoming primaries.
The NPP said its early congress was a strategic decision aimed at repositioning and strengthening the party for the next general elections, not to advance the ambitions of any individual.
