Rabat International University Hospital Mohammed VI Complex inaugurated 

Demonstrating His steadfast commitment to building a modern, equitable, and high-performing national healthcare system, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, accompanied by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, presided, on Monday, over the inauguration of the Mohammed VI International University Hospital Complex in Rabat.

On this occasion, the Sovereign also gave His High Directives for the commissioning of the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center (CHU) in Agadir, further strengthening equitable access to healthcare across all regions of the Kingdom.

A New Benchmark for Medical Excellence in Rabat
Developed by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health, the Mohammed VI International University Hospital Complex in Rabat stands as a state-of-the-art hub combining advanced medical care, research, and academic training.

Built over 280,000 square meters, the complex includes two major entities: the Mohammed VI International University Hospital of Rabat and the Mohammed VI University of Health Sciences.
With an initial capacity of 600 beds, expandable to 1,000, the hospital features more than 30 specialized departments, covering neurosurgery, interventional cardiology, oncology, and radiotherapy. It is equipped with leading-edge technologies, including Africa’s first PET-MRI scanner, a fully automated laboratory, and a robotized hospital pharmacy.

Adjacent to the hospital, the University of Health Sciences can accommodate up to 8,000 students across six faculties and schools. It provides world-class training through modern teaching facilities and an international medical simulation center, ensuring students gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge clinical environments.

The complex also embodies Morocco’s commitment to sustainable development, with HQE (High Environmental Quality) “Exceptional” certification and 8,800 m² of solar panels that cover over 10% of its energy needs, reducing carbon emissions by 40%.

A Major Step Forward for Healthcare in Southern Morocco
The Mohammed VI University Hospital in Agadir represents a historic step in the regionalization of Morocco’s healthcare network.
Built on a 30-hectare site with 867 beds, and requiring an investment of 3.1 billion dirhams, this next-generation hospital is equipped with digital operating rooms, intensive care units, and cutting-edge technologies, including the Revo I surgical robot — a first in Africa.
Serving nearly three million residents in the Souss-Massa region and neighboring provinces, the facility will significantly improve access to specialized care, reducing the need for patient transfers to other cities.
