SHS/TVET Placement: Over 480,000 successfully placed – Dr. Apaak

More than 480,000 candidates have been successfully placed in senior high schools through the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), Deputy Education Minister Dr. Clement Apaak has said.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, Dr. Apaak said 483,800 students, representing 82 percent of qualified candidates, had secured placements in senior high schools, senior high technical schools, and technical and vocational institutions.
“I am pleased to announce that 483,800 candidates (82%) have been successfully placed. Of this figure, 248,038 are females (51.4%), and 234,783 are males (48.6%),” he stated.
Dr. Apaak explained that some students were unable to secure their first-choice schools due to high demand. “However, 107,509 candidates (18.2%) could not be matched with their initial school choices due to high demand for certain Category ‘A’ schools,” he said.
He added that a self-placement portal had been activated to give affected candidates a chance to select schools with available vacancies.
“To address this, the self-placement portal has been activated and is now live. All qualified candidates who were not automatically placed are encouraged to log onto the system and select from schools with available vacancies,” he explained.
The Deputy Minister also cautioned parents and guardians against paying money for school placements. He encouraged them to report third parties to the police in order that they could face the full rigors of the war.
“Ladies and gentlemen, let me take this opportunity to strongly reiterate that placement is free. The Ministry of Education cautions parents and guardians against paying money to any individual, whether a Ministry official or a third party, for placement. Anyone soliciting payment must be reported immediately to the nearest police station or to the Office of the Special Prosecutor,” he warned.
He congratulated candidates for reaching this stage of their academic journey and encouraged parents, teachers, and communities to support them.
Dr. Apaak said the candidates had “a clear and secure pathway to continue their education, “whether placed directly or through the self-placement portal”.
