Ahanta West NDC executives petition Mahama for removal of MCE

Some executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ahanta West have petitioned President John Dramani Mahama, urging him to remove the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly, Ebenezer Kofi Aidoo over allegations of misconduct, corruption, and administrative incompetence.

The petition, dated February 12, 2026, cites Article 243(3) of the 1992 Constitution, which empowers the President to revoke the appointment of an MCE for proven misconduct or incapacity. The NDC branch executives argue that the MCE’s alleged actions have seriously undermined local governance, disrupted party cohesion, and threatened the development agenda in the municipality.

Among the key allegations is the claim that the MCE unilaterally locked the Assembly Hall to prevent a meeting convened by the Presiding Member of the General Assembly. The petitioners describe this as a clear abuse of authority and disregard for established procedures in the administration of the Assembly.

The petition also raises concerns about illegal mining activities in the municipality. According to the executives, confiscated excavators were released without proper accountability, and the MCE allegedly used security operatives to extort money from illegal miners. The group said they submitted supporting evidence to the President, including video footage and mobile money transaction records, to substantiate their claims.

Further accusations highlight conflicts of interest in the awarding of contracts, including the Busua-Dixcove Bridge project and a contract under the School Feeding Programme. The petitioners also claim the MCE interfered in local chieftaincy matters, a move they argue contributed to unrest and tension in parts of the municipality.

Financial mismanagement is another central point in the petition. The executives allege that the MCE failed to deploy district road machinery for feeder road maintenance while authorizing the hiring of external equipment at additional costs, thereby creating unnecessary expenditure and inefficiency in municipal operations.

The NDC executives conclude that the MCE’s continued tenure is detrimental to effective local governance, threatens party unity, and impedes developmental progress. They are therefore calling on the President to take decisive action to remove the MCE, restore accountability, and ensure that leadership in Ahanta West aligns with good governance standards and the public interest.
