Armed robbers attack Sprinter bus to Kumasi, hold 20 passengers at gunpoint
The passengers endured a terrifying ordeal during the midnight bus robbery.
At least 20 passengers travelling on a Sprinter bus to Kumasi were held at gunpoint in a brazen armed robbery attack in the early hours of Friday, September 12, 2025.
The Sprinter bus, with registration number GG 4181-16, was ambushed while driving along a notorious stretch of road between Tweapease and Mfensi, close to the Moments of Glory Prayer Army (MOGPA).
Eyewitnesses reported that the armed robbers blocked the Sprinter bus and forced the 20 passengers to surrender their money, mobile phones, and valuables. The attack has raised fresh concerns about the safety of travellers heading to Kumasi, especially along that stretch of road notorious for robberies.
One of the Sprinter bus passengers, Effah Samuel, recounted the frightening armed robbery to Citi News, describing how five gunmen suddenly emerged and threatened everyone on board. “It all happened so fast. They came out of nowhere, pointing guns at us and shouting for us to give them everything we had. We were terrified,” he said.
Although none of the 20 passengers sustained physical injuries, the victims of the armed robbery have been left traumatised.
The incident also highlights growing fears among commuters over the Sunyani road, which residents say is increasingly unsafe due to poor conditions and limited police patrols.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has arrested David Kwodwo Prah Afful, the man seen in a viral video inciting violence against public officials and government workers. His arrest followed days of sustained intelligence-led operations.
According to police, the suspect, who is popularly known online as Kwame Nkrumah the Second, was picked up at his hideout near Kasoa Market around 2:20 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
The arrest comes after the viral video drew widespread condemnation and sparked public concern about threats against public officials.
Police investigators revealed that Mr. Afful allegedly used his social media platform to issue threats against government officials, journalists, and civil servants, particularly those driving vehicles with official green number plates. In the same video, he also threatened to set markets ablaze and encouraged his followers to commit violent acts.
