Asiedu Nketia appeals for patience amid gov’t appointment concerns

National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has urged party faithful to remain patient as government appointments fall short of expectations following a reduction in ministerial positions.
Addressing supporters during a regional tour on Tuesday, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) acknowledged growing concerns among members who are yet to secure roles under the current administration.
He pointed to President John Dramani Mahama’s earlier commitment to reduce the number of ministers from 120 to 60, explaining that the decision has inevitably limited available opportunities.
“When President Mahama suggested that he will reduce the number of ministers from 120 to 60, we were all clapping,” he said.
Mr Asiedu Nketia cautioned that the reduced size of government means competition for positions has intensified, making it unrealistic for everyone to be accommodated.
“So if we are sharing 120 ministers and you didn’t get, when you reduce it to 60, what is your chance of getting,” he asked.
He directly addressed frustrations among party members who feel overlooked, urging them to remain committed despite the setbacks.
“Those who have not gotten appointments, those who feel disappointed in politics, your benefits will not come at the same time that others will have their benefits,” he stated.
The NDC Chairman further emphasised that political involvement does not always yield immediate personal rewards, noting that long-term gains may extend beyond the individual.
“Some of you will not have any benefit from joining NDC but your children will come and benefit greatly from the party,” he said.
He added that while some individuals may benefit now, such advantages may not necessarily extend to future generations.
“There are others who will get their benefit today, and in the future their children will not get any benefit,” he noted.
Mr Asiedu Nketia’s remarks come at a time when expectations within the party remain high following the NDC’s return to power, with many supporters anticipating appointments as recognition for their contributions.
