Ayawaso East MP passes on

Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Naser Toure Mahama, has reportedly died, triggering an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, party members, and constituents.

The National Democratic Congress lawmaker was said to have passed on over the weekend, according to party sources and close associates, though official details surrounding his death are yet to be formally communicated.

Mr Toure Mahama was first elected to Parliament in 2012 and entered the House in January 2013, representing the Ayawaso East Constituency in the Greater Accra Region. He went on to serve multiple terms, including membership of both the Seventh and Ninth Parliaments of the Fourth Republic.

In Parliament, he was widely regarded as an experienced legislator, holding strategic roles across several committees. He served as Vice Chairman of the Energy Committee, one of Parliament’s most influential bodies, and was also a member of the Roads and Transport Committee, the House Committee, as well as the Private Members’ Bills and Motions Committee.

Born on March 17, 1965, in Nima, Accra, Naser Toure Mahama built his public life on a strong educational foundation. He attended West Africa Senior High School before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Central University College.

He later obtained a Diploma in Governance from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration and an MBA from Japan’s Doshisha University.

Within the NDC, Mr Toure Mahama was known as a loyal party man and grassroots politician with deep ties to his constituency. He retained his seat in the 2024 general election, winning decisively with over seventy percent of valid votes cast.
