Two women arrested over alleged attack on 12-year-old

The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested two women over the alleged assault of a 12-year-old girl at the La Roman JHS area, with a third suspect currently on the run.
The police noted that the arrests followed a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, who reported to the station with her daughter bearing visible marks of assault.
In a statement issued on January 4 by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, police said the mother alleged that her daughter was attacked “without any provocation” by three women.
According to the police account, officers took a formal statement from the complainant and issued a Police Medical Report Form to enable medical examination of the child as part of ongoing investigations.
Preliminary findings indicate that earlier on the same day, the 12-year-old girl had an altercation with a seven-year-old boy, identified by police as Horm Giftan Mesopeh, who is related to the suspects. Investigators say the incident involving the children later escalated.
“Following the altercation, the suspects allegedly went to the victim’s house, brought her to their residence and assaulted her,” the police statement said.
On December 31, the complainant led officers to arrest two of the suspects. They were identified as Precious Giftan Mesopeh, 22, and Princess Giftan Mesopeh, 25. Police said the third suspect, Priscilla Novishe Wornyo, 49, a fashion designer and the mother of the two arrested women, had travelled to the Volta Region.
“The two suspects have been formally charged and are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations,” the statement noted.
Police said the suspects are expected to be arraigned before court on Monday, January 5.
The police command added that efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the third suspect to aid the investigation.
“Police efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the third suspect to aid the investigation,” the statement said.
The Accra Regional Police Command used the incident to caution the public against taking the law into their own hands, particularly in disputes involving children.
It urged parents, guardians and community members to promptly report incidents to the police.
The statement further stressed the need to protect children at all times. “The Command urges the public to respect the law and safeguard the rights and welfare of children,” it said.
It assured the public that the police would ensure due process as investigations continue.
