Breaking News: Ghanaian soldiers hit by missile at Ghana battalion base in Lebanon

Two Ghanaian peacekeepers have been critically injured after a missile attack struck the Ghana Battalion Headquarters serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon.
According to a statement issued by the Ghana Armed Forces on Friday, March 6, 2026, the incident occurred amid escalating hostilities between the Israel Defense Forces and Hezbollah in the region.
“The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to inform the general public that as a fallout of the current on-going IDF and Hezbollah exchanges in Southern Lebanon, the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters in United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL), Lebanon came under two missile attacks between 1745 and 1752 hours local time today,” the military said in the statement.
The attack left two soldiers critically injured, while another personnel was left traumatised.
“Two soldiers are critically injured, while one other has been traumatised,” the statement said.
Military authorities indicated that the injured personnel are currently receiving treatment and remain in stable condition.
“The injured are receiving treatment at the Level One Medical Bunker and are currently stable while arrangements are underway for their evacuation to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital,” the statement added.
The missile strike also caused significant damage to infrastructure at the Ghanaian base.
“Additionally, the Officers’ Mess facility also got hit and has been burnt down completely,” the statement disclosed.
Despite the attack, the Ghana Armed Forces assured the public that other Ghanaian troops stationed at the base remain safe.
“The Ghana Armed Forces assures the general public to remain calm amidst the fragile situation as troops are currently safe in underground bunkers,” the military said.
Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has protested the incident at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York.
“Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has protested the unfortunate incident at the United Nation’s HQ in New York and urged the parties involved in the conflict in UNIFIL to be mindful of their responsibilities regarding the safety of all peacekeepers in the theatre,” the statement said.
The statement was signed by Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces.
Ghana has been a long-standing contributor to UN peacekeeping operations, with its troops serving in several missions across the world, including Lebanon, where they support efforts to maintain stability and monitor the cessation of hostilities along the Israel–Lebanon border.
