Current NPP is fake – Prof Frimpong Boateng

Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng says the New Patriotic Party he once belonged to no longer exists, describing the current version as fake and hollow.
The former Minister for Environment, Science and Technology made the remarks on Channel One TV’s Point of View programme on Monday evening when asked whether he still considers himself a member of the NPP.
“The present NPP is not real, it’s fake. What I see now is not the NPP I used to know,” Prof Frimpong Boateng said.
Pressed further on his status within the party, he distanced himself from the current structure, insisting his loyalty lies elsewhere. “Not the fake one. The real one is there. It’s a virtual thing,” he stated.
He criticised the process that led to the election of the party’s last presidential candidate, describing it as deeply flawed and corrosive to democratic values within the party.
“Look at how they elected the last flag bearer. Twist people’s arms, intimidating others to get a flag bearer. This is the beginning of corruption and this should not be allowed in any serious party,” he added.
Prof Frimpong Boateng warned that the NPP risks further decline if it fails to address the causes of its 2024 electoral defeat.
“We lost the elections badly and we did not deal with the issues that led to the losses and we still want to go in there,” he said. “I think it will be a trainwreck if they elect the old flag bearer.”
Although he did not mention names directly during some parts of the discussion, the former minister took a clear swipe at Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who led the party in the 2024 presidential election, questioning the renewed push by party leaders to support him again.
He also criticised the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, under whom he served, alleging that the former president was unduly influenced by relatives in the exercise of power.
Beyond party politics, Prof Frimpong Boateng expressed disappointment with the direction of governance, arguing that he does not see any serious or coherent plan for national development under the current government.
He cautioned that continued backing of Dr Bawumia by the present NPP leadership, without introspection or reform, could further weaken the party’s credibility and prospects.
