‘He was good-hearted’ – NDC eulogizes late Ayawaso East MP

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has paid glowing tribute to the late Ayawaso East MP Naser Toure Mahama, describing him as calm, humble, and deeply committed to the party and the people.
The ruling party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, led the tributes on Sunday during funeral rites held in his honour, reflecting on years of close parliamentary collaboration with the deceased lawmaker.
“I was MP at the time he became MP, and the two of us had the privilege of working very closely on the Energy sub-committee of Parliament,” Mr Kwetey said. “At the committee level, we had many opportunities to interact and know each other.”
Aligning himself with earlier tributes, the NDC General Secretary described the late legislator as “the epitome of calmness, composure, humility and simplicity,” adding that he embodied “what you call a good-hearted person.”
“We want to thank him for his service to our great party, being the MP for Ayawaso East, and the support he gave to our people in the constituency,” Mr Kwetey told mourners. “He served this party with great dedication and commitment.”
News of the death of Naser Toure Mahama last week triggered an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, party members, and constituents, although official details surrounding his passing are yet to be formally communicated by the family or party leadership.
Mr Toure Mahama was first elected to Parliament in 2012 and entered the House in January 2013, representing the Ayawaso East Constituency in the Greater Accra Region. He went on to serve multiple terms, including in the Seventh and Ninth Parliaments of the Fourth Republic.
In Parliament, he earned a reputation as an experienced and steady legislator. He served as Vice Chairman of the Energy Committee, a role that placed him at the centre of critical national policy discussions.
He was also a member of the Roads and Transport Committee, the House Committee, and the Private Members’ Bills and Motions Committee.
Born on March 17, 1965, in Nima, Accra, he attended West Africa Senior High School before obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Central University College.
He later earned a Diploma in Governance from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration and an MBA from Japan’s Doshisha University.
Within the NDC, he was widely regarded as a loyal party man and grassroots politician with deep connections to his constituents.
He retained his parliamentary seat in the 2024 general election, winning decisively with more than seventy percent of valid votes cast.
As tributes continue from across the political divide, party members say his legacy of humility, service, and quiet dedication will remain firmly etched in Ghana’s parliamentary history.
