Doctor dies by alleged suicide, leaves note for family

A wave of grief has swept through Koforidua in the Eastern Region following the tragic death of a medical doctor who reportedly took his own life after a final conversation with his wife.
The incident, which came to light in a video shared on social media on Saturday, August 2, has left the community stunned. Family sources say the doctor, moments before his passing, told his wife: “Take care of our three kids. We will meet.”
Known for his dedication to patients and warm demeanor, the late doctor was widely respected both at home and in the hospital. But behind his calm exterior, close friends believe he had been under immense stress.
“He carried a lot, both from work and from personal struggles. None of us imagined it would come to this,” one family friend shared.
Relatives say the emotional weight of balancing a demanding career with private pressures may have taken a toll on him. His wife, now left with their three children, is said to be devastated by the loss and the haunting final words he left behind.
The tragedy has reignited conversations around mental health—particularly among professionals in high-pressure fields like medicine. Mental health advocates in Koforidua are calling for greater awareness, support systems, and open conversations.
“This isn’t just about one man. It’s about how many people suffer silently,” said a local psychologist. “Mental health is real, and we need to pay attention.”
Health authorities and colleagues in the medical field have extended their condolences to the bereaved family, with many doctors in the region expressing shock over the loss of a valued colleague.
Support is already being mobilised around the widow and children as the community mourns one of its own and reflects on the unseen battles many continue to fight behind closed doors.
