FDA shuts down Tasty Tom Production over safety breaches

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has ordered the immediate suspension of the manufacture of Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix. This follows the discovery of multiple infractions at the production facility of Nutrifoods Ghana Limited.
In a press release issued on Saturday, August 3, 2025, the FDA disclosed that the decision was taken after a thorough investigation prompted by consumer complaints.
The regulatory body noted that critical manufacturing equipment at the plant was poorly maintained, and monitoring systems were not up to standard to ensure public health and safety.
The FDA had previously directed a market recall of all canned Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix products as well as specific batches of the tomato mix sold in 380g and 1.05kg pouches.
“The suspension follows consumer complaints and FDA’s investigation of Nutrifoods Ghana Limited’s manufacturing plant, which established infractions on standards and quality,” the statement read.
Officials say the company failed to meet safety and quality benchmarks necessary for food processing, raising significant concerns about consumer protection.
The FDA has urged the public to discontinue use of the affected products while it continues its oversight and regulatory actions. The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the health of consumers and ensuring that only safe and high-quality products remain on the market.
Further details are expected in subsequent updates from the FDA.
