Finance, Education best performing ministries in Today.com.gh poll

The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education emerged as the best-performing ministries in President John Dramani Mahama’s first year, a Today.com.gh online poll has found.
The poll, conducted on 29th and 30th December, 2025, set out to gauge public perception of ministerial performance during the administration’s first year, focusing on which sector readers believed delivered the greatest impact on national life.
Results published by Today.com.gh show the Finance Ministry topping the poll with 42.64 per cent, placing it firmly ahead of all other ministries.
The Ministry of Education followed closely with 37.21 per cent, reinforcing its position as one of the administration’s most visible performers.
Combined, the two ministries accounted for nearly 80 per cent of total responses, suggesting strong public approval for policies linked to economic management and education access during the period under review.
The strong showing for Finance has been linked to its role under Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson in stabilising the economy.

Observers point to the appreciation of the cedi against major foreign currencies and the marginal reduction in prices of goods and services across sectors.
The ministry has also overseen the removal of taxes widely opposed by the public, including the e-levy, betting tax, and emissions tax introduced under the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration.
The Finance Ministry has been instrumental in guiding the economy to achieve a single digit inflation for the first time since August 2021.
The latest inflation rate for November 2025 stands at 6.3%, declining for the 11th straight month.
An editor at Today.com.gh noted that “many respondents appear to be rewarding policies that directly ease household and business pressures.”
“The economy touches everyone, so it is not surprising that Finance performed strongly,” the editor said. “Currency stability and tax relief resonate immediately with people.”
The Ministry of Education, led by Haruna Iddrisu and his able Deputy Minister, Dr. Clement Apaak, was equally driven by policy visibility. Key initiatives rolled out under the Mahama government include No Fees Stress, Free Education for Persons With Disabilities, Free Sanitary Pads for Girls in Schools, and the uncapping of GETFund, all aimed at widening access and improving quality.
Uncapping the GETFund allowed the government to make more money available to support education, especially the Free Senior High School policy.
In the 2025 budget, the government projected an extra GH¢4.1 billion for the GETFund beyond the basic allocation for Free SHS. This additional funding helped cover key costs such as teaching and learning materials, student feeding, and other expenses needed to keep the programme running smoothly and sustainably.
Education stakeholders have argued that removing the cap would help fix long-standing infrastructure problems in schools. With more funds flowing into the GETFund, the government could build new classrooms, improve existing facilities, and reduce overcrowding in schools across the country.
Beyond the top two, the Foreign Affairs Ministry placed third with 9.30 per cent, while the Roads Ministry followed with 3.88 per cent.
The Energy and Transport ministries each recorded 2.33 per cent, while Health received 1.55 per cent. Agriculture trailed with 0.78 per cent.
Several ministries, Interior, Trade, Communications, and Lands, attracted no votes, pointing to either lower public visibility or weaker perceived impact during the year assessed.
Although online polls measure perception rather than comprehensive performance, the results offer a useful snapshot of what citizens notice first, the economy and education.
Today.com.gh indicated that similar polls may be conducted periodically to track shifts in public opinion as the administration advances through its term.
