Goldbod signs GHC8.4m rehabilitation agreement with GWCL

The Ghana Gold Board (Goldbod) has signed a GHC8.4 million rehabilitation funding agreement with the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to restore three major water supply systems.
The agreement will finance the first phase of rehabilitation works on the Bonsa, Daboase and Sekyere Hemang water supply systems to improve water production and reliability.
Speaking to reporters after the signing ceremony at Goldbod’s premises in Accra, Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi said the project would focus on critical interventions to restore the affected facilities.
“We are signing what we have termed the Water Infrastructure Funding and Rehabilitation Funding Agreement for the rehabilitation of the Bonsa, Daboase and Sekyere Hemang water supply systems,” he said.
Mr Gyamfi explained that the scope of work includes desilting of the water systems, dredging works, geographical surveys, sediment removal, the lawful and safe disposal of dredged materials, and reservoir capacity assessments.
“The Goldbod will provide funding for this first phase, which is an amount of GHC8.4 million. And we should designate our representatives to participate in the monitoring of the project,” he stated.
He said GWCL would spearhead the implementation of the project in accordance with the terms of the agreement and applicable laws.
Mr Gyamfi added that only qualified professionals would be engaged to undertake the rehabilitation works to ensure the project meets the required technical and environmental standards.
The rehabilitation is expected to improve the operational efficiency of the three water supply systems, which have been affected by sediment build-up and reduced reservoir capacity over time.
The inclusion of monitoring representatives from both institutions is intended to strengthen oversight and ensure transparency throughout the implementation of the project.
The initiative forms part of efforts to safeguard critical water infrastructure and improve the delivery of potable water to communities served by the Bonsa, Daboase and Sekyere Hemang systems.
