Kennedy Agyapong has best opportunity in 2028 General Election – Sticker

Stephen Amoah
Senior Kennedy Agyapong campaign adviser Dr Stephen Amoah says the former Assin Central MP offers the New Patriotic Party (NPP) its best chance in the 2028 General Election.
Dr Amoah made the assessment during an appearance on GHOne TV on Friday morning, explaining that his decision is rooted in electoral strategy rather than personal loyalty.
He said his support for Mr Agyapong is driven by what he described as “opportunity,” a critical factor he believes will determine victory in 2028.
“I still love, respect, and like Dr Bawumia. He is a very great person that I respect,” Dr Amoah said, referencing the former vice president whom he backed in the 2023 New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries. “But politics is about performance, and performance depends on ability, opportunity, and motivation.”
According to him, while all five contenders in the ongoing NPP flagbearer race possess ability and motivation, opportunity is the decisive variable.
“The concentration is opportunity,” he stressed. “If you don’t have the opportunity to sit where you are and work, can the people benefit from you?”
Dr Amoah said his current position requires a cold assessment of the party’s prospects. “My problem is analysing our chance of winning power in 2028,” he noted. “I have come to acknowledge or appreciate the fact that Kennedy Agyapong will give NPP the best opportunity to beat NDC.”
He also addressed claims circulating after the 2024 general election that Dr Bawumia outperformed him electorally.
The comment, he explained, referred to the fact that Dr Bawumia polled more votes nationwide as presidential candidate than he did as parliamentary candidate for Nhyiaeso.
“In my position, it’s not interesting to go into comparisons,” he said, warning against what he described as selective propaganda edits of his remarks.
The NPP is scheduled to hold its next presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.
Although opinion polls have consistently placed Mr Agyapong second, he trails the frontrunner, Dr Bawumia, by a significant margin.
Despite the gap, Dr Amoah insisted that electability should guide delegates. “Winning is about competitive edge,” he said. “And in 2028, opportunity will decide everything.”
