‘NDC’s greatest fear is Kennedy Agyapong’ – NPP’s Charles Forson

The Member of Parliament for Tema Central, Charles Forson, has declared that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) considers Kennedy Agyapong its greatest fear ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, August 5, Forson argued that the former Assin Central MP possesses the kind of political strength and grassroots support that makes him the most formidable opponent the NDC could face in the next presidential race.
“The NDC’s greatest fear is Kennedy Agyapong,” Forson stated. “He appeals directly to ordinary Ghanaians. He’s a man of the people. When you go to the markets, trotro stations, or banking halls, people speak with one voice—bring Kennedy and the NPP will win in 2028.”
His comments came shortly after Agyapong officially picked up nomination forms to contest the NPP’s upcoming presidential primaries scheduled for January 2026.
Forson pointed to Agyapong’s impressive performance in the NPP’s 2023 flagbearer race, where he secured nearly 38% of the total valid votes cast despite receiving no formal support from party executives or Members of Parliament. He described this feat as remarkable and a clear sign of the candidate’s rising popularity and influence.
“This time around, a group of MPs has come together to purchase the forms for him. That tells you the support is not only alive—it is growing stronger by the day,” he said.
He lauded Agyapong’s reputation for fearless truth-telling, patriotism, and his practical understanding of Ghana’s economy, stressing that these qualities resonate with voters who are tired of empty promises and political showmanship.
“He doesn’t speak textbook economics. He speaks about what the ordinary Ghanaian is going through. That’s why people trust him. That’s why the NDC is afraid of him,” the Tema Central MP added.
Forson also revealed that the campaign team intends to focus heavily on grassroots mobilisation, leveraging Agyapong’s widespread appeal to reclaim power for the NPP.
“What the party needs right now is a bold, independent-minded leader who won’t be manipulated. Kennedy Agyapong is that leader. He is Ghana’s hope, and the NDC knows it.”
Agyapong’s entry into the 2026 flagbearer race is expected to shake up internal party dynamics once again, as the NPP prepares to elect a candidate capable of leading the opposition party back to power in 2028.
