The Netherlands Confirms Autonomy under Moroccan Sovereignty as the Most Realistic Resolution to the Sahara Issue.
The Hague – As part of the international momentum created under the impetus of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, in support of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara and the Autonomy Plan, the Netherlands affirmed that “genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the most feasible solution to definitely put an end to the regional dispute.”
This position was expressed in the Joint Statement adopted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs and of Asylum and Migration, David Van Weel, following their meeting on Friday in The Hague.
The Joint Statement also indicated that the Netherlands welcomes the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797 and expresses its full support to the efforts of the Secretary General and his Personal Envoy to facilitate and lead negotiations founded on the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, with the aim of reaching a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable solution, as recommended by the relevant Security Council resolutions.
