New Black Stars coach to engage the media on Thursday

New Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz will address the media on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
The press conference, scheduled for 1:00 PM, was announced via the Black Stars’ official social media platforms, marking the coach’s first formal interaction with the Ghanaian media since his appointment.
The engagement is expected to provide insight into Queiroz’s immediate plans, his technical approach, and preparations ahead of the FIFA World Cup in June.
It will also offer journalists an opportunity to seek clarity on team selection, tactical philosophy, and expectations surrounding Ghana’s campaign.
Last week, the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association confirmed Queiroz’s appointment as head coach of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The decision followed consultations with key stakeholders aimed at strengthening the team’s technical direction.
Queiroz brings extensive experience, having managed national teams across multiple continents, including Portugal, Iran, Egypt, Colombia, Qatar, Oman, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates.
At club level, he has handled top sides such as Real Madrid and Sporting CP, and also served as assistant manager at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson.
His World Cup pedigree is notable. He guided South Africa to qualification in 2002, led Portugal to the knockout stage in 2010, and managed Iran at three consecutive tournaments in 2014, 2018, and 2022, becoming one of the country’s longest-serving coaches.
Ghana will open its 2026 World Cup campaign on June 17 against Panama in Toronto, before facing England and Croatia in a competitive group. The tournament itself begins on June 11 across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Attention now shifts to how quickly Queiroz can shape the squad and implement his philosophy as preparations intensify.
