NPP organiser hopeful bemoans cash demands from delegates

An aspiring NPP constituency organiser says delegates increasingly expect money from candidates, describing the party’s internal elections as financially draining.
Speaking in a video widely circulated on social media after voting in the New Patriotic Party’s constituency elections over the weekend, the aspirant candidly recounted the financial pressure aspirants face as they campaign for delegates’ votes.
Expressing his frustration, he said, “It’s a problem my brother. The work is not easy. Everyone is demanding money from the 1,600 [NPP aspirants] up for election.”
The organiser hopeful suggested the burden was particularly difficult for aspirants seeking party executive positions without the financial resources often associated with elected public office.
“I’m not even an MP. Just an [aspiring] organiser. I’m even sad. That’s why I’ve come to sit on this stone,” he remarked, drawing laughter from those around him as he narrated his experience.
He also questioned the sincerity of delegates after voting, saying, “When you ask any of the voters, they’ll tell you, ‘Oh I voted for you’.” He added, “We’ll see what happens by evening. It’s not easy at all but we are on it.”
The interview, delivered in a humorous tone despite the serious allegations, quickly gained traction on social media, where many users shared and commented on the aspirant’s frank assessment of delegate politics within the party.
Moments after the interview, a delegate informed the aspirant that voting had ended. Seizing the opportunity for another light-hearted exchange, he jokingly asked the delegate who she had voted for.
Before she could respond, he quipped that she would probably claim she had voted for him, prompting laughter from those present.
Although the aspirant’s comments were made humorously, they have renewed public discussion about allegations of vote-buying and the financial demands associated with internal party elections in Ghana.
The NPP conducted constituency executive elections nationwide over the weekend to elect officials expected to steer the party’s grassroots structures ahead of future political activities and the 2028 general election.
