Pragya rider shot dead in Berekum

A young Pragya rider has been shot dead in Berekum, sparking fear and outrage among residents.
The 24-year-old auto rickshaw rider, Bernard Kyere, was allegedly shot dead by unknown assailants at Sofokyere, a suburb of Berekum in the Bono Region. The shocking incident occurred between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. on Saturday, leaving the entire community in grief.
According to eyewitness accounts, the Pragya rider was found lifeless in his tricycle after being shot in the head. Residents say this latest killing highlights growing insecurity in Berekum and has intensified calls for urgent action from the police.
Chairman of the Auto Rickshaw Riders at the Biadan Station, Nana Yusuf Bakari, confirmed the attack and said he rushed to the scene with police officers. He noted that this is the third such incident in the area and warned that Pragya riders may be forced to suspend night operations if authorities fail to address the situation.
The victim’s father, Seth Kyere, recounted that Bernard was at home on Friday evening but later received a phone call around 8 p.m. and left with his tricycle, only to be found dead hours later. He has since appealed to security agencies to investigate thoroughly and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Police have deposited the body at the Holy Family Catholic Hospital morgue while investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has arrested David Kwodwo Prah Afful, the man seen in a viral video inciting violence against public officials and government workers. His arrest followed days of sustained intelligence-led operations.
According to police, the suspect, who is popularly known online as Kwame Nkrumah the Second, was picked up at his hideout near Kasoa Market around 2:20 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
The arrest comes after the viral video drew widespread condemnation and sparked public concern about threats against public officials.
Police investigators revealed that Mr. Afful allegedly used his social media platform to issue threats against government officials, journalists, and civil servants, particularly those driving vehicles with official green number plates. In the same video, he also threatened to set markets ablaze and encouraged his followers to commit violent acts.
