Re-organize vetting of MMDCE aspirants in Greater Accra – Coalition of NDC branch Executives to Nat’l Executives

The Coalition of NDC branch Executives in the Greater Accra Region is calling on the National Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to re-organize the vetting of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) aspirants in Greater Accra.
In a statement the Coalition stated their strong opposition to what they described as “unlawful and undemocratic process, which undermines transparency, accountability, and due process in the governance of our local assemblies”.
“Warn Against Partisan Manipulation – The selection of MMDCEs should be based on merit, competence, and the will of the people, not the selfish interests of a few individuals seeking to hijack the process.
“The National Executives should re-conduct the vetting for each District in Accra for proper transparency. Failure to do so will have a dire consequence on the fortunes of the party in the region”, the group stated.

National Executives : Re-organize the vetting of MMDCE aspirants in the Greater Accra Region
We have taken note of disturbing reports regarding an illegal shortlist of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) for the Greater Accra Region. We wish to categorically state our strong opposition to this unlawful and undemocratic process, which undermines transparency, accountability, and due process in the governance of our local assemblies.
It has come to our attention that certain individuals, without the mandate of the appointing authority and without adherence to established procedures, have manipulated the selection process to impose their preferred candidates. This development raises serious concerns about political interference, favoritism, and the erosion of public trust in the system.
We wish to remind all stakeholders that the appointment of MMDCEs must follow the legal framework as outlined in the Constitution of Ghana, the Local Governance Act, and relevant regulations. Any attempt to subvert due process will not be tolerated.
We, therefore:
1. Demand Full Transparency – We call on the government and relevant authorities to make public the official list of shortlisted candidates and the criteria used in the selection process.
2. Call for an Investigation – An independent probe should be conducted to identify and hold accountable any persons responsible for this illegal shortlist.
3. Urge the President to Intervene – The appointing authority must ensure that only qualified, competent, and duly vetted candidates are considered for these crucial positions.
4. Warn Against Partisan Manipulation – The selection of MMDCEs should be based on merit, competence, and the will of the people, not the selfish interests of a few individuals seeking to hijack the process.
5. The National Executives should re-conduct the vetting for each District in Accra for proper transparency. Failure to do so will have a dire consequence on the fortunes of the party in the region.
We stand firm in our commitment to ensuring good governance, fairness, and justice in our local government administration. Any attempt to impose unqualified or illegally shortlisted candidates will be met with the necessary legal and civic resistance.
We urge all well-meaning Ghanaians, civil society organizations, and political stakeholders to join us in safeguarding the integrity of our local governance structures.
Signed
Animle Oyanka Oshimpa
