Reversal of renamed universities: Akufo-Addo’s legacy is the biggest hole he dug – Dr. Apaak to Asenso-Boakye

The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, says former President Akufo-Addo’s legacy is the biggest hole he used Ghanaians’ money to dig unlawfully.

This follows comments by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, who accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration of attempting to erase former President Akufo-Addo’s legacy in their announced move to reverse the renamed of some public universities.

The MP in a Facebook comment stated that the current administration’s planned action is not in the spirit of national unity.

Mr. Asenso-Boagye also described the NDC’s government-planned action as regrettable.

“The NDC government’s plan to reverse the renaming of public universities by the Akufo-Addo administration is not only petty; it is deeply regrettable. It reflects a desperate attempt to undo the legacy of the previous government at the expense of national unity and progress,” Mr. Asenso-Boakye stated.

But, the Deputy Minister for Education who is also the Member of Parliament of Builsa South in a sharp rebuttal stated that the renaming by the former the former President was “partisan cum clan induced.”

“What legacy? Akufo-Addo’s legacy is the biggest hole he illegally used our money to dig. This legacy is globally recognized and will forever remain his most enduring legacy”, the deputy minister stated.

According to him, former President Akufo-Addo could not build a single public university and has no legacy with respect to Ghana’s public universities.

“You call renaming several existing universities by a President who didn’t build them, not even one, his legacy? No.

“We made it clear that the partisan cum clan induced renaming of public institutions of higher learning by Akufo-Addo will be reversed, and that is exactly what we will do” Dr. Apaak stated.
