The roots of Vitting Senior High Technical School trace back 33 years, during which it has offered a diverse range of educational programs. The driving force behind this historic homecoming is the venerable old students’ association, led by the esteemed chairman, Alhaji Thomas Kofi Pang. During the launch event, Alhaji Pang emphasized the significance of the upcoming gathering, scheduled for November 18 to 25, 2023.
He indicated that the event’s pinnacle activities align with the school’s 35th-anniversary celebrations, slated for 2025. Alhaji Pang articulated, “This will be an opportunity to bring alumni back to Vitting Senior High Technical School and let them experience the campus in a meaningful way and create new moments and memories that will last a lifetime.”
The objectives of the old student’s association extend beyond mere nostalgia. Their mission includes encouraging members to provide practical services to the school and promote its overall development.
Alhaji Pang reiterated that, “another objective of VOSA is to help members appreciate the unity of the association and promote a sense of belonging to an academic world.” The school, since its inception in 1991, has produced illustrious alumni serving in various capacities across the diverse sectors of the Ghanaian economy. Therefore, it is of paramount importance for all alumni to actively participate in the impending activities to ensure the event’s resounding success.
Amidst the distinguished gathering of old students, current students, well-wishers, and some staff of the school, Alhaji Thomas Kofi Pang also shed light on the challenges facing Vitting Senior High Technical School.
He also called upon the government and other stakeholders to take immediate steps to address these pressing issues. His plea resonated with the audience, underscoring the urgency of rectifying the school’s predicaments.
On his part, the headmaster of Vitting Senior High Technical School, Mr. Bukari Ahmed expressed his appreciation for the launch of the maiden homecoming of the old students. He described it as an opportune moment, allowing former students to identify and understand the challenges confronting the school firsthand.
According to Mr. Ahmed, the school’s recent accomplishments, which include remarkable strides in academic performance and infrastructure development. These achievements encompass the construction of new boys’ and girls’ dormitories, an increase in student enrollment, and the ongoing construction of a school fence wall by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
“The performance of our students in the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination has been improving each year,” Mr. Ahmed proudly proclaimed. “In 2022, twenty-eight percent of students who sat for the examination qualified for various institutions of higher learning.”
However, even in the face of these notable achievements, the school remains beset by a litany of challenges. These encompass inadequate infrastructure leading to classroom and dormitory congestion, a shortage of furniture, a deteriorating state of workshops and laboratories, and insufficient staff accommodation, among other issues.
In conclusion, the launch of the Vitting Senior High Technical School’s maiden homecoming represents a significant milestone in the institution’s history. It signifies a collective effort to rekindle the spirit of unity and support among its alumni, reignite the memories of the past, and commit to a brighter future for the school.
